Itinerary description:
The route begins in Dolo, a lively riverside village, and leads to Valle Averto along the peaceful country roads of the Riviera del Brenta.
From the parking area in Dolo, opposite the old hospital entrance, we cross a small pedestrian bridge that connects to Via Fondamenta. At the Ponte del Vaso intersection, before going straight ahead, we can admire the Dolo Locks. Turning left onto Via Guardiana, we then join a recently built bicycle path that connects Dolo to Sambuson.
After reaching Porto Menai, we turn right onto Via Argine Destro Novissimo and follow it all the way to Campagna Lupia.
After crossing the Romea State Road, we will find ourselves in the Lugo Canal that leads to the Lagoon – our final destination: from here we enter Valle Averto, a WWF Oasis of about 200 hectares that represents a wetland of international importance. The coexistence of fresh and brackish water creates remarkable environmental diversity. Valle Averto is also recognized as one of the most important wintering, migration and nesting areas for about 250 species of birds.
Visits to the Oasis are guided only, last about two hours, and must be booked in advance. A visit to the website is recommended.
The return to Dolo is by the same route as the outward journey.
