Itinerary Description:

The itinerary starts from the Le Giare Equestrian Center and develops in a typical environment of the Venice Lagoon, largely unspoiled, as it lies off the major tourist flows.

The area, formed by the sediment carried by the Brenta River, which anciently flowed into the lagoon here, is known as Dosso di Giare. It represents a portion of reclaimed mainland (dating back to the Napoleonic era) that extends into the lagoon between the Bondantino canal and the Serraglia and Contarina Valleys.

The itinerary winds through the barena (sandbank), mainly along the lagoon containment embankments. The original design of these embankements dates back to the early 1600s and was only completed in 1791 by the Republic of Venice (La Serenissima) with the placement of 100 cippus, 4 of which are found along the route (cippo No. 95, 94, 93 and 92).

Between cippo 94 and 92, the path runs along an embankment where there are “cavane” (little boathouses built on the water) and from here, if the day is clear enough, one can catch a glimpse of the city of Venice and observe the typical avifauna of the barena, such as herons and flamingos.
