The Radicchio Festival

The “Festa del Radicchio Città di Mirano e dei Sapori della Tradizione Veneta”, now in its XXIV edition, is an event that originates from the inclusion of the territory of Mirano in the production area of the Red Radicchio of Treviso PGI and the variegated Castelfranco PGI.

The Festival will involve, in addition to the producers of radicchio, also the students and the different productive forces of the city.

With the patronage of the Veneto Region and the Municipality, the event is organized by the Pro Loco Mirano in collaboration with the trade associations of Farmers (LA CIA, LA COLDIRETTI, LA CONFAGRICOLTORI) La Strada del Radicchio and The Higher Education Institute “8 MARZO – K. LORENZ” of Mirano.

The exhibition will be set up, from 9.30 am, in PIAZZA MARTIRI, where the radicchio, brought by the producers of the area (about forty), will be exhibited under the wooden stalls, arranged around the oval of the square.

In addition to radicchio, there will also be “the flavors of the Venetian tradition”, therefore, about fifty other stands along the streets that flow into the historic center, where you can buy selected local food and wine products.

We will have cheeses produced by hand throughout the region, from the plains to the hills to the pastures, with cow’s, sheep’s or goat’s milk. Our cheeses will also be compared with others from Carnia, Puglia and Tuscany. There will be no shortage of cured meats with the “sopressa” on the head that will be compared with the cured meats of “Mora Romagnola” (a breed of pig from Emilia-Romagna). And then oil, in oil, rice, flours of all kinds, beans and nuts, vegetables, herbal teas, wine, beer, and grappa (also with radicchio), chocolate, honey and biscuits. And then a product of excellence: Saffron that is produced right here in our territory by a young entrepreneur.

In the morning the official opening of the event takes place in the presence of the authorities and delivery of the diplomas of participation to the producers present. The first three winners of the drawing competition for primary schools, organized by the CIA, will also be awarded. All the works received will be exhibited in Piazza Martiri.
