Tourism has always been the passion of Gabriele Baldan, owner of the ‘Cantiere 34‘ travel agency in Dolo. “Every day, people from all over the world come to my desk and ask for some advice about places to go in the evening, for a walk or an aperitif or for an after-dinner drink. I like to think that in addition to admiring what the Riviera has to offer in terms of art, tourists can also mix with the locals and savor local customs; and what better proposal than aperitif time, which for us Venetians is a real ritual? For a Venetian spritz or a good glass of wine accompanied by some savouries, I would recommend the low island of Dolo, the Mira Porte are and square and the Mirano square.
In the pedestrian area of Dolo, in what is called the “Isola Bassa“ (low island), many small bars and cafés have sprung up. This area has been restored to its ancient splendor after undergoing urban refourbishment works of particular historical importance. On one side of the Naviglio stands the Mulino (the Mill), built in the first half of the sixteenth century, whose perfectly preserved wooden wheel can still be seen. On the other side is the Squero (the boatyard), where boats were repaired.
In Mira Porte instead, where the ancient lock – painted by Canaletto and Cimaroli and now buried-, was located, a number of small buildings overlooks the eighteenth century square; this artificial islet is a very particular, suggestive and quiet place.
