Palio of Ruzante

Every year, at the end of September, the Palio del Ruzante re-enacts the customs and traditions of the ancient inhabitants of the Brenta Riviera, who transported food and materials between Padua and Venice on large boats pulled by men and horses. The protagonist of the Paio is the “Burcio,” the traditional transport boat, which, as in the past, is loaded with materials and pulled by teams representing the municipalities of the Riviera.

The result is a fun and exciting time trial, part of a vast program of events and re-enactments that also includes a costume parade, theatrical performances, period dishes, and small spaces for crafts.

The Palio del Ruzante, combining sporting competition and historical re-enactment, celebrates with originality a traditional activity of great economic and cultural value and the fundamental link with water that unites the different lands bordering the Brenta.
