Fluttering lace, precious dresses, and sumptuous fabrics perfectly express the splendor of the Serenissima, just as archers, fire-eaters, and flag-wavers are able to take us even further back in time, to the Middle Ages.
The Palio held in Noale by the Tempesta lords in 1339 and 1347 is reenacted in June with reinterpretations of games and ceremonies: the footrace between districts, the drawing of the “bale d’oro” (golden bales), and the fireworks display simulating the burning of the city’s fortress are just a few examples. A medieval festival in every sense of the word.
