Sweet moments in the Riviera

It is never easy to find the right pasticceria, a traditional Italian cake shop, that fully satisfies your sweet tooth at any given moment. Be it breakfast croissants, small pastries to top-off a meal or take away cakes that you can enjoy by the river, these simple treats, if consumed consciously, will nurse you back to happiness. Luckily, there isn’t just one perfect pasticceria, but rather a rich array of bakeries that range from the cake shop that produces creative puff brioches, to the bar that offers delicious coffee or the family-run bakery where the smell will bring back childhood memories. When in the Venetian area, single-serving desserts and cupcakes are a must-try: your tastebuds will thank you.

There’s nothing better than the delicacies on offer at the bakeries of the Brenta Riviera to satisfy the sweet tooth of cake lovers. One of the mustvisit in the area is the historical Pasticceria Zaggia that can be found a stone’s throw away from Villa Pisani in Stra. Strategically located on the main square, it makes for a perfect coffee and cake break during a stroll along the Naviglio river. Over the years it has earned a reputation for quality cakes, pastries and brioches. Every day the kitchen of the young pastry chefs Gianluca and Alberto produces delicacies for all types of sweet cravings, from brioches and croissants, to pistachos bignè, mousse, chocolate croccantino or cream millefoglie and much more.
Managed by Silvia Nobile, Pasticceria Zaggia not only is the perfect place to purchase pastries and cakes for any special occasion, but it is also a great cafe where you can have breakfast, sip coffee or you can enjoy the most popular tradition of all, the evening aperitivo.

Along with cakes you’ll find homemade gelato, one of the most sought- after food of the Riviera area. An example of fine gelato can be found at Gelateria da Simone, owned by Simone Valotto. With its three stores located between the Miranese area and the Brenta Riviera – and specifically in Olmo di Martellago, Noale and Oriago di Mira – it is a perfect place for a coffee break thanks to its innovative, and yet still traditional, concept. The foodie magazine Gambero Rosso has listed these ice cream parlours among Italy’s best as they won an award for their techniques at the international Sherbeth Festival of ice cream. A stroll along the Brenta river and the villas that face its waters, or near the old towers of Noale’s main square, calls for a salt flavored ice cream. Must-tries are also more traditional flavors such as pistacho, or its non-dairy version, strictly made with high quality ingredients that the sweet tooth will surely appreciate.
